Gone "All men below deck!" My father shouted as he spotted a huge wave heading our way. I opened my mouth to reply yes sir but all I got was a face full of salt water. My natural instincts were kicking in. "I need air" my brain seemed to scream at me. I needed to get to the suface and fast! I started pumping my legs as fast as I could. I silently thanked my soccer coach for pushing us so hard at practice as I felt myself rising upward. "uuuuuuuh" I managed to take one shuddering breath before I was enclosed once more in salty, stinging water. I pumped my legs but I didn't seem to be getting anywhere. I tried again, this time with my arms. Before I could reach the surface I felt myself plummmeting down again. Was I drowning? My body slammed into something hard and brought my descent to a painful end. It was the deck of our ship! I needed to find the trapdoor that led to the cabins! I blindly groped around for the handle, my eyes stingingth salt water. Suddenly my hand struck a handle of some sort. It was the trapdoor! I grabbed it and yanked. When it opened I slipped inside. I missed the stairs and started to fall. As I fell to the floor I realized I was still holding my breath. I gasped in air only to be winded by the impact of the cabin as I landed. As I lay coughing and sputtering I began to take in my surroundings. I was in my father's cabin. Since my father was the captain he had alot of compasses and maps and stuff all over his desk, an elegant, mahogany structure. I normally liked his cabin but not now. The carpet was wet and musty. The air reeked with fish, and seaweed. It was hot because of the twenty bodies literally piled on top of one another. one of our crew had already washed over board. But something else was missing. Ididn't know what, I could just sense it. " I think we sho go up and see if yo cap'n's there." One of the crew suggested. That's when I realized that my father was missing. "Oh no" I raced up the stairs and onto the deck. I swung my head to the left expecting to see him laughing, a smile splayed upon lips. Nope. I swung my head to the right. Not a chance. I looked straight ahead of me.I couldn't see him. Slowly, very slowly I started to turn around. Afraid of what I might see, I closed my eyes. When I was completely turned around I opened my eyes. He wasn't there. "Help, Amy! Help!" My father. He must have been trapped in the cabins! I made my way over to the cabins but the noise grew fainter. He wasn't in the cabins. In fact, his voice wasn't even coming from the ship. It was coming from the sea!! I ran to the starboard's railing, and a couple of crew members followed. "hold on dad" I yelled as I threw him the life preserver. I handed the rope to the crew and they started to heave him into the ship. Just as he had reached the bottom another giant wave came. When the sea was finally calmed down my father was nowhere in sight. He was gone.
